Most Expensive Box Office Bombs Of All Time
Oddly enough, first look at this movie and people could ascertain that John Travolta’s alien character with his oddly shaped eyebrows and a creepy forehead won’t be capable of saving this flick. Revolving around an alien race that enslaves humans and it is their last chance to fight for their rights, the plot seemed just about right. But all thanks to bad execution, it ran into a freight-train of failure coming their way. So much so that they incurred losses of $98.9 million!

An eerie movie based on the supposedly existent life form on Mars should’ve garnered quite an attention at the theatres, especially since it had a stellar star-cast of Val Kilmer and Carrie-Anne Moss who was riding high on the success of The Matrix, and yet it got so badly thwarted at the box-office that people deny its existence on the screen! For a movie of such a star cast, Red Planet could barely generate peanuts as opposed to its production cost and ran into a loss of $89.9 million!
An animated series so deeply cherished by decades of hardened followers was soon to be immortalized on the big screen, and that got the masses pumped beyond comprehension. But the utterly horrible execution paired with an equally disheartening cast and screen-play proved to be a colossal bummer for this flick! Even the fans who swore by it gave it one sneak peek and dashed in the opposite directions with their wallets clutched. For a cartoon series with such a hardened history, the flick thoroughly failed to live up to its expectations and doomed with a hefty sum of $114.5 million!
Movies based on fairly decent books tend to make it big at the box office, Life of Pi seeming to be the apt example lately, of course. But there are few that fail to pull it off in a manner beyond comprehension, and John Carter seems to be the epitome of it! For a movie produced by Disney with creepy aliens, tribal aliens, beautiful aliens, and friendly alien pets, the movie had everything for everybody! But something went down horribly wrong, and that includes a fairly slow moving plot and a not-so-great cast that locked a horrible fate for this flick. The losses were high enough to rudely awaken Hollywood when Disney posted a loss of $200 million and
above! And yet it seems that such a huge loss hasn’t deterred Disney as they’re all set to produce a sequel of this box-office dud!
